(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The hunger strike forced Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba -- Israel's seventh-largest hospital complex -- to shut down its emergency department.
Israeli doctors and medical staff in other hospitals resorted to complaining of “fatigue” to avoid working as a new means to protest their work conditions after a labor court banned them on Wednesday from going on strike.
The physicians have been protesting their unfavorable working circumstances and low pay for months.
Hundreds of hospital medics and staff staged a walkout in at least eight hospitals across Israel to protest a new agreement between the Israel Medical Association and the Israeli Finance Ministry, which they had not found satisfactory. The move, however, was obstructed when a Labor Court issued a ruling against further strikes.
“One thousand new jobs should be created, so we can properly treat patients,” said Yona Weissbuch, spokesman for the Residents Association, urging the adoption of a new plan to improve the public health system in Israel.
